Golden Valley High quarterback Josh Valano connected with Jalin Lewis for major yardage in the Grizzlies’ 45-10 non-league victory over Agoura on homecoming night at Canyon High on Thursday night.

Lewis caught five passes for 151 yards and a 73-yard touchdown. Valano completed 9-of-17 passes for 172 yards with a touchdown for the Grizzlies (4-0), who took a commanding 21-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

“We just had to practice hard and do our job,” said Lewis “We just have to keep working hard in practice and hit the weight room.”

Agoura (0-4) struggled on offense thanks to Grizzlies Cameron Ravenell and Darius Anthony, who had six tackles each. DJ McIntyre and Joseph Ibrahim had five tackles each for Golden Valley.

The Chargers reached the red zone late in the second quarter thanks to a couple costly mistakes by Golden Valley, but Agoura would get a flag and settle for a 39-yard field goal by Riley Magnone before the half’s end. The Chargers added another score in the fourth quarter with a Spencer Lin 12-yard touchdown pass to Morgan Koff.

Koff caught four passes for 61 yards. Lin completed 17-of-34 passes for 190 yards with a touchdown for Agoura.

KJ Maduike rushed for 114 yards on eight carries with a touchdown, Michael Marquez rushed for 85 yards on six carries with a touchdown, and DJ Turner rushed for 40 yards on five carries with a late fourth quarter touchdown for Golden Valley, who will try to go perfect in the preseason as they hit the road next Friday to take on Rio Mesa of Oxnard.

“We haven’t taken a look at the film yet,” said Golden Valley coach Dan Kelley. “I know that they have a strong tradition and they play really tough football out there. We will evaluate what we did tonight and have a game plan for next week. Our goal is to go 5-0 in the preseason.”
