First place in Foothill League received a facelift Thursday night when the Valencia Vikings swept the West Ranch Wildcats, 3-0, at Valencia High School. The win ties the Vikings with the Wildcats with a 6-1 Foothill record and the top spot in the league, with three games remaining for both teams.
“Tonight was a dominant performance across the board,” Valencia coach Ray Sanchez said. “Position by position, rotation by rotation, I felt we were in control the whole time.”
The game scores were: 25-22, 25-17, and 25-23.
West Ranch took a 17-13 lead to start Game 1 before Sanchez called a timeout to calm his team. The Vikings responded with a 12-5 run, capped off with a kill by Lauryn Shockley, to take the first game 25-22.
Valencia, who was led by Shockley’s 16 kills, Kaelyn White’s 18 assists, and Kelsey Knudsen’s 19 digs, carried their momentum into Game 2, winning 25-17.

The Wildcats dominated Game 3 early, growing the lead as large as 20-14. With the help of Bri Coleman, whose 10th kill ended the game, Valencia fought back from a potential game four with an 11-3 run that gave the Vikings a 25-23 victory, and the 3-0 sweep of West Ranch.
“It feels great,” Coleman said regarding her game-winning kill. “I had my team behind me putting perfect balls for me to get that opportunity.”
Allison Jacobs’ 12 kills, Katie Jacobs’ 27 assists, and Victoria Del Rosario’s 10 digs led the Wildcats.
“My girls did things that showed grit,” West Ranch head coach Brandon Pank said. “We’re still excited for league and are ready to head into the playoffs on a positive note.”
West Ranch hosts the Hart Indians Tuesday night with games against the Canyon Cowboys and Saugus Centurions (4-3) following that the Wildcats must win to keep a hold of first place.
Valencia looks to keep pace with West Ranch when they travel to Saugus High School Tuesday night to face the Centurions and have the Golden Valley Grizzlies (1-7) and Cowboys remaining on their schedule.
Saugus 3, Golden Valley 0
The Saugus Centurions swept the Golden Valley Grizzlies, 3-0, Thursday night at Golden Valley High School.
The game scores were: 25-17, 25-14, and 25-10.
The Grizzlies fall to 1-7 in the Foothill League and travel to Canyon High Tuesday night.
Grace Ferguson’s 14 kills, Caitlin Liebe’s 11 kills, and Holly Prioli’s 13 digs led the Centurions who move to 4-3 in the Foothill League. They host the Valencia Vikings (6-1) Tuesday night.
Hart 3, Canyon 1
The Hart Indians defeated the Canyon Cowboys, 3-1, Thursday night at Canyon High School.
The game scores were: 20-25, 25-14, 25-9, and 25-16.
The loss drops the Cowboys to 1-7 in the Foothill League. They host the Golden Valley Grizzlies (1-7) Tuesday night.
The Indians were led by Madi Fay’s 12 kills, seven blocks, and 25 assists, as well as, Zoe DiNardo’s 11 kills. Hart plays the West Ranch Wildcats (6-1) Tuesday night at West Ranch High School
