It had been 45 years since Terri Redick had seen the home movies her father made while she was still a child. She brought around 30 rolls of film, totaling approximately 1800 feet, to the 14th annual international Home Movie Day at Valencia Library on Saturday.
“It just takes me back in time,” Redick said.
She was able to relive her childhood of hand stand contests and familial comradery through the projection of her 8mm film on the wall.
Redick was among the people who were invited to bring their 8mm and super 8mm home movies to Valencia Library where assistance with using the multiple projectors was available.
Valencia was one of 60 cities worldwide that announced they were hosting Home Movie Day, which was originally thought up by the Center for Home Movies.
Rhonda Vigeant, the organizer of the local event and the co-owner of Pro8mm in Burbank, said the goal was for people to take their home movies out of their closet and share them with the people they love.
“We want people to know that their life matters,” said Vigeant.
