The Count Basie Orchestra, known as “the most explosive force in jazz,” is bringing their signature sound to the Santa Clarita Valley on Monday, November 28, at 7 p.m. West Ranch High School is thrilled to welcome the 17-piece jazz group for a concert that will also serve as a fundraiser for the school’s music program.

The Count Basie Orchestra has been the gold standard of jazz for over 80 years. They have won 18 Grammy Awards, performed for world royalty, appeared in movies and television shows and performed at every major jazz festival and concert hall in the world. Arguably the most prominent big band of the swing area, sometimes called “the swingingest band in all the land,” will be performing not just swing standards, but shouting the Blues with precision.

The orchestra is led by trumpeter Scotty Barnhart who, when not on tour, is a music professor at Florida State University. Barnhart spent 20 years as a featured soloist with the Count Basie Orchestra before being tapped as the big band’s director three years ago.

West Ranch is truly honored to have been selected as a stop on Basie’s worldwide tour.
