Seven people, including three girls, were injured and rushed to various hospitals Tuesday night following a crash near Via Princessa when one car ran into the back of another, according to an officer with the California Highway Patrol.
One of the patients, a 16-year-old girl, suffered serious injuries in the crash, California Highway Patrol Officer Josh Greengard told The Signal Wednesday morning.
A Palmdale woman, identified as the driver and sole occupant of the car that was hit, suffered severe head injuries, he said.
Three of the patients were rushed to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, four were taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center.
The traffic collision happened just before 7 p.m. Tuesday when two vehicles collided in the southbound lanes of Highway 14, just north of Via Princessa, Greengard said.
A 2015 Toyota Corolla with six occupants rear-ended a silver-colored Honda Accord, Greengard said.
“Preliminary investigation indicates unsafe speed,” he said, noting CHP investigators reported the Toyota sustained front end damage.
“These were pretty severe injuries, some broken bones,” Greengard said.
The other two child occupants of the Toyota were identified as an 11-year-old girl and an 8-year-old girl.
The driver of the Toyota was identified only as a male resident of Castro Valley.
Paramedics dispatched at 6:57 p.m. arrived at the crash at 7:03 p.m., a Los Angeles County Fire Department spokeswoman said.
Firefighters reported a gasoline leak from the crash, she said.
No hazardous materials unit, however, was dispatched to the incident.
