Variety proved to be the West Ranch High boys tennis team’s most powerful weapon on Thursday afternoon, as the Wildcats took down Valencia High, 14-4, at West Ranch.

Noah Morrow, Davey Woodland and Quincy Walter-Eze each swept in singles.

Morrow won 6-2, 6-1, 6-0; Woodland won 6-0, 6-3, 6-3 and Walter-Eze won 6-1, 6-2, 6-3.

“Each of our singles players had a different strength and that’s what makes our lineup so strong,” said Cats coach Eric Spiecker. “We have different types of players, and it makes it hard for the other team to assimilate and make adjustments.”

In doubles, West Ranch’s Parker McBride and Jake Anderson swept with scores of 7-5, 6-4 and 6-4.

“They’ve been friends and been playing tennis together at the Paseo Club since they were nine years old,” Spiecker said. “The chemistry is automatic and the friendship makes it even more fun for them to play together.”

The Vikings pairing of Jackson Boxall and Stephen Thay won two sets.

“It was a real breakthrough for that team in particular because they’re a new team this year and they played a really strong and challenging Valencia team and were able to come out and win that tiebreaker,” Spiecker said.

West Ranch, which is coming off a season in which it reached a CIF semifinal for the first time in program history, next plays at Hart on Tuesday at 3 p.m. Valencia plays Saugus on Tuesday at 3 p.m.

Hart 14, Canyon 4

The Indians won every doubles match, with the team of Thomas Lincavage and Andrew Barker having the best results of 6-1, 6-0 and 6-1.

Spencer Kline swept in singles 6-1, 6-2 and 6-1. Sam Fossa also won his match with scores of 2-6, 6-4 and 6-3.
