A semi-truck, hauling two fuel tank trailers on Interstate 5 northbound south of Templin Highway on Sunday morning, punctured one of the fuel tanks, causing an hours-long delay on the highway, according to an official with the California Highway Patrol Newhall-area Office.
All I-5 northbound traffic was being diverted to State Route 126 at the time of this publication, according to Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez with the CHP.
He added that alternate routes include the SR 126 westbound to the U.S. Route 101 and State Route 14 to State Route 138.
The call went out around 5:24 a.m., with the semi spilling a large amount of fuel across the roadway leading to the full closure, Burgos-Lopez said.
Burgos-Lopez said they do not recommend commercial vehicles travelling on Ridge Route Road.
He said the driver of the semi-truck allegedly punctured one tank into the other tank.
Burgos-Lopez said he did not know when the lanes would open.
