The Castaic Union School District (CUSD) Governing Board announced its provisional appointment of community member Mayreen Burk to its governing board following a special meeting Tuesday.
Burk will fill the remainder of former Board Member Victor Torres’ term, whose resignation was effective Feb. 17.
Through the provisional appointment, Burk will act as a CUSD Governing Board member until November 2017.
Board members made the decision following interviews with the board’s two applicants, Burk and Bonnie Nikolai, Tuesday evening.
Unless a petition calling for a special election and containing a sufficient number of signatures is filed with the Los Angeles County Superintendent of Schools within 30 days of the provisional appointment, the board’s appointment will become an effective one.
