From burnt-down schoolhouses to newly-constructed libraries, the Santa Clarita Valley is full of history that is worth celebrating.
That was the idea behind the construction of a historical tile mural at Newhall Elementary School on Saturdayâan art project that the community was invited to participate.
“The more hands we can get on that mural, the more protected it is in the community,” said Dianne Foderaro, the education chair of ARTtree Community Arts Center. “People look at it and say I did some of that, I added to that mural.”
Much of the SCV community united to build this mural including Newhall Elementary School, ARTtree Community Arts Center and the Newhall School District. In fact, this mural was made possible by an arts grant from the City of Santa Clarita.
“The ARTree was the driving force behind this design and implementation,” said Foderaro.
The community came out in droves to help build the piece of public part that will be on display at the original front doors of Newhall Elementary School by next week.
Volunteers, such as Sara Brown, love to get the opportunity to add their own details to the mural. One of her contributions was making the blue sky.
“I think that it would be great to continue having opportunities like this for public art,” she said.
