As California’s legislation season wraps up, state Assembly members will be returning to their districts for recess.

For the legislators who represent the Santa Clarita Valley, this means more face time with constituents and the ability to attend events, host meetings and spend time at home.

Recess will consist of time with loved ones, community members and businesses for Assemblyman Dante Acosta (R-Santa Clarita).

“I’m looking forward to a chance to spend time with my wife and my kids, our family, friends and neighbors,” Assemblyman Dante Acosta said. “I am looking forward to the chance to spend more time back in the community.”

He also plans to hold several community chats, including two in the Santa Clarita Valley on Aug. 5. One will be held at 9 a.m. at It’s a Grind in Castaic and the other at 12 p.m. at Big Mouth Pizza in Santa Clarita.

Acosta plans to meet one-on-one with constituents as well so they can discuss problems and ask questions.

“My schedule is already full of events meeting with seniors, students, educators, local business owners, volunteer organizations and directly with members of our community,” he said.

Among tours he has planned, Acosta plans to visit a foster youth group home, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, Simi Valley Hospital, local school campuses and UCLA and CSU Channel Islands to discuss higher education.

The assemblyman said he’ll also spend time holding ice cream socials at senior centers.

Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club of Santa Clarita and Santa Clarita Kiwanis Club are also on the agenda, he said, a chance for members to meet with Acosta to discuss the work their groups are doing.

The 38th district Assemblyman said he’s also planning to host a small business round table, varying in their sectors, for businesses to share their concerns and inform Acosta of ways they believe the he and the legislature can help.

“I believe that when we have the ability to spend time in the district that our constituents should have lots of access to their representatives,” Acosta said.

Assemblyman Tom Lackey’s (R-Palmdale) break will be spent in all areas of his district meeting with constituents and spending time with his family, he said.

“Since getting elected in 2014, the Assembly’s summer recess is one of my favorite times of the year because I get to spend quality time with the people who live in my district,” Assemblyman Tom Lackey said.

Among other events, the 36th district assemblyman said he’s hosting a “Stuff the Bus” school supply donation drive on July 28 at the Palmdale Walmart.

“I plan to stay very busy during this break because the only way for me to effectively represent my district in Sacramento is to understand what people are concerned with and what is going on locally,” Lackey said.

Lackey plans to participate in several tours and meetings in the Santa Clarita Valley, but the specifics are still being finalized by his office.

The Assembly will reconvene on Aug. 21.

As for the region’s Senators, Henry Stern (D-Canoga Park) and Scott Wilk (R-Santa Clarita), neither could be reached for comment on Wednesday.
