The drive-thru COVID-19 testing center at College of the Canyons has temporarily closed due to a change in staffing, but Los Angeles County Department of Health Services expects the site to reopen next week, according to officials.

The county opened the center in early April and has operated on a voluntary basis with staff from its partner agency Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, but the hospital is no longer able to staff the location, said Health Services spokeswoman Kathleen Piche’.

“DHS is currently in the process of hiring staff, so that the county can operate the site by directly staffing it ourselves. We expect to reopen the site next week and anticipate having a firm reopening date soon. Access to testing in all communities, including Santa Clarita, is one of our top priorities,” she said via email.

Local residents who are looking to get tested can still access the nearest sites, including the at the Northridge Hospital Medical Center at 18460 Roscoe Blvd., the Palmdale Hammack Center at 815 E. Avenue Q6, or the High Desert Medical Group at 43839 15th St. West in Lancaster.
