The L.A. County District Attorney’s Office declined to file charges against a Newhall man arrested on suspicion of continual sexual abuse of a child, requesting more information about the allegations, according to an email from the office Thursday afternoon.
“Our office has asked for further investigation,” according to an email from Greg Risling, spokesman for the D.A.’s Office.
A sergeant with the Special Victims Bureau wrote in an email Thursday morning that his unit recommended charges to prosecutors with the D.A.’s Office against a Newhall man accused of continuous sexual abuse of a child.
Information regarding the victim’s age or the relationship to the suspect was not available.
The 41-year-old suspect, who knew the victim and had a Newhall address on the same block where the crimes allegedly happened, was arrested Monday morning, according to custody records available online.
“The suspect and juvenile victim know each other,” Sgt. Joseph Mesa, who leads the Special Victims Bureau for the North County region, which includes the Santa Clarita Valley, wrote in an email. “The victim alleged she was sexually assaulted by the suspect on multiple occasions.”
The incidents are alleged to have occurred on Grape Lily Circle, according to Mesa, who did not respond to a request for comment Thursday afternoon.
The suspect was arrested at 9:26 p.m. Monday and held in lieu of $350,000 bail, and then released at 1:52 p.m. Wednesday, according to custody records.
The grounds for his release in custody records online referred to a Penal Code section that indicates there was not sufficient evidence to file a criminal complaint.
