News release

Pastor David Hegg of Grace Baptist Church has released, “Calvin’s Cross,” a work of historical fiction that takes place in the modern day and unravels a myth from the days of Henry VIII and John Calvin.

The book is Hegg’s ninth, and his first-ever novel.

“Ridley, a seminarian whose theological assumptions have been torn apart by his professors, is facing the deadline for his master’s thesis. Having just experienced the long, painful decline and death of his parents, Ridley decides to write on the greatest obstacle to faith: If God is good, why does evil exist?” says the author’s summary of the book. “Cleaning out his childhood home, he discovers his parents’ vast collection of research into The Malcolm Myth. Intrigued with what he finds, and stymied with writer’s block, he throws reason to the wind. He flies off to Europe on a whim and finds himself partnering with Kate, a lovely Ph.D candidate who, for reasons of her own, joins him in a globetrotting adventure to unravel one of the biggest conspiracies of the English monarchy.”

Set in the modern day as well as the era of Henry VIII and John Calvin, “Calvin’s Cross” is a story interlaced with historical reality and soul-comforting wisdom to accept both a sovereign God and the presence of evil in our world, said the release from the author.

Hegg, who writes a weekly column on ethics on the opinion page of the Sunday Signal, has served as pastor/teacher of Grace Baptist Church in Santa Clarita since 2009 and has been in pastoral ministry for over four decades.

He holds degrees from The Master’s University, Western Conservative Baptist Seminary and Westminster Theological Seminary, and teaches preaching and theology at TMU.

A frequent conference speaker and published author, his works include “The Obedience Option,” “When My Heart is Faint,” “Foundations of Faithfulness,” “The Well,” “Appointed to Preach” and “The Privilege of Persecution.”

His first non-fiction work, “The Joanie Stories,” invites young readers into the adventures of homesteaders in 1870.

“Calvin’s Cross” is available for purchase online.
