Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies have released additional details on the arrest of a man on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after what officials described as an “alleged road-rage incident.”

Station officials said Michael Anthony Cantu, 34, of Saugus, was arrested after deputies responded to an incident shortly after noon Monday, near the 28000 block of Newhall Ranch Road.

During the incident, the victim — a man who had been driving a pickup truck — and the suspect, Cantu, exited their vehicles, according to an email Wednesday from Deputy Mariela Picard, spokeswoman for the SCV Sheriff’s Station.

“The suspect reportedly then physically assaulted the victim with a knife and fled the scene,” she wrote.

The victim was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Picard wrote that station deputies conducted a field investigation and ultimately were able to locate Cantu, which led to his arrest just before 4 p.m. Monday, according to custody records available online from the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department.

LASD records indicate Cantu bonded out on $30,000 bail the following day and he has a hearing scheduled for Oct. 7 in connection with the charge.

Picard said the incident is still under investigation by the station’s Detective Bureau.

The incident was captured on video by another motorist who witnessed it. That video appeared with The Signal’s initial story on the incident and can be viewed at tinyurl.com/5fptv4dm
