Obsessive compulsive disorder sufferers often experience an average of 17 years before receiving effective treatment, and in an effort to reduce this lengthy wait and combat stigma, the local advocacy group OCD Awareness SCV is hosting an upcoming walk and community event aimed at increasing awareness, fostering a supportive community, and accelerating access to treatment for those affected by OCD.

Now in its fifth year, the annual event,is being produced in partnership with both OCD SoCal and the International OCD Foundation, according to a news release from OCD Awareness SCV.

The event is scheduled 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 18, at Fair Oaks Park, 17468 Honey Maple St., Santa Clarita.

This free event will include OCD success stories, interactive activities, educational resources, and a walk around the park in support of the IOCDF’s “One Million Steps for OCD” campaign.

OCD Awareness SCV started in 2020 as a grassroots volunteer group, run by local community members. In 2024 the group became an affiliate of OCD SoCal. The group mission is to advocate for OCD awareness, to create opportunities for support, and enhance connections within the local OCD community.

“The walk creates much-needed community and provides hope for OCD sufferers and those who love them,” psychologist Michelle Witkin said in the release.
