California Highway Patrol officers engaged in a high-speed pursuit on Friday and arrested a teenager on suspicion of felony evading, according to a spokesman for the CHP Newhall-area Office.
At approximately 4:24 p.m. a CHP officer observed a black Ford Mustang traveling at a high rate of speed on the southbound side of Interstate 5 near Smokey Bear Road, CHP Newhall spokesman Carlos Burgos Lopez wrote in a text to The Signal.
When the CHP unit attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the driver of the Mustang failed to yield and officers engaged in the pursuit reaching speeds as high as 120 mph, he added.
The driver exited the I-5 at the Magic Mountain Parkway exit near the Six Flags Magic Mountain theme park, Burgos-Lopez wrote in the text.
The Mustang traveled westbound heading toward the community of Valencia Five Point when CHP units lost visual of the car, which prompted law enforcement officials to request an aerial unit to assist in locating the suspect, he added.
The Mustang was located on Marquee Drive and Middleton Street when a CHP unit conducted a felony traffic stop and arrested the suspect, who was identified as a 19-year-old male, according to Burgos-Lopez.
He was booked into the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail on suspicion of felony evading, he added.
