The L.A. County District Attorney’s Office filed two misdemeanor charges against a Los Angeles Police Department officer over allegations she struck a dog in an incident that was filmed in Valencia and then shared online.

A criminal complaint filed Monday alleges cruelty to an animal by Giselle Prado with two claims against the “family dog.” One involves intentional abuse and the other unnecessary cruelty.

A video shared on social media last month sparked a complaint to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. It showed a woman, who deputies later confirmed they suspected was Prado, striking a dog on the sidewalk, in a phone video that appeared to be taken from a distance.

The station’s Detective Bureau investigated the concern and made a filing recommendation Oct. 13, according to the DA’s Office.

The incident allegedly happened Sept. 26, according to the filing.

The LAPD is aware of the investigation, and Prado has been placed on leave while the allegation is being looked into, according to a previous email from Officer Norma Eisenman of the LAPD’s Public Information Office, which stated no additional information would be forthcoming.

Records available online indicated she had five years of experience with the department.

The arrest warrant was requested Monday in L.A. County Superior Court in Santa Clarita, according to court records. The record did not have a future hearing date for the matter.

L.A. County Sheriff’s Department custody records indicated Wednesday that Prado has not appeared as of this story’s publication.
