Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department homicide detectives are investigating the death of politician Mitt Romney’s sister-in-law Friday night on Town Center Drive in Valencia.

At approximately 9 p.m. Friday, Homicide Bureau investigators responded to the 24000 block of Town Center Drive regarding a death investigation of a woman, later identified as 64-year-old Carrie Elizabeth Romney, of Valencia, according to an LASD news release.

Deputy Brenda Serna of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau confirmed Monday that Carrie Romney was the sister-in-law of Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, U.S. senator representing Utah and 2012 Republican presidential nominee.

The woman was found near a parking structure on Town Center Drive.

The cause of death will be determined by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner’s Office, the LASD release said. As of Monday evening, the Medical Examiner’s website lists her cause of death as “deferred,” meaning it is still being investigated.

The Homicide Bureau’s investigation remains ongoing and no additional information was available as of Monday evening, according to the LASD release.
