Los Angeles Police Department officials Monday confirmed an employee was placed on leave related to the investigation of a dog being struck in a video, which has been shared online.

The somewhat grainy footage, which was shared through multiple social media platforms, depicted a woman striking a dog multiple times next to her car, which was parked in a newer FivePoint neighborhood in Valencia.

The department is aware of the investigation, and Officer Giselle Prado has been placed on leave while the allegation is being looked into, according to an email Monday from Officer Norma Eisenman of the LAPD’s Public Information Office.

“There will be no further comment,” Eisenman wrote.

The video sparked multiple complaints that were sent to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station for investigation last month. SCV Sheriff’s Station officials did not respond to requests for comment during the investigation.

A Sheriff’s Department source confirmed the investigation was completed last week, and the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office wrote in an email Friday that a case was sent to prosecutors that morning for filing consideration.

Prado has not been arrested as of Monday.

Any recommended charges or further information was not available on Monday due to the Columbus Day holiday, but a D.A.’s Office representative said the case was still under consideration.

Information available online indicated that Prado has five years of experience and works for the Topanga Division of the LAPD.
