The L.A. County District Attorney’s Office charged a Santa Maria woman with three felonies after an Oct. 28 DUI investigation on State Route 14.

A spokesman for the California Highway Patrol’s Newhall-area Office said the woman was seen driving toward the highway at a high rate of speed around 2:40 p.m.

The driver narrowly avoided crashing into a semi-truck as units attempted to catch up to the vehicle,” according to an email Friday from Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez. “Officers conducted an enforcement stop on (the northbound lanes of State Route 14), south of Crown Valley (Road).”

When officers contacted the 24-year-old driver, she exited her vehicle, allowing it to roll forward, according to Burgos-Lopez, citing the arrest report.

“Officers were able to quickly jump into (Analesia) Zepeda’s vehicle and place it in park,” he added. “Officers on scene conducted an investigation on scene and ultimately arrested Zepeda.”

During the arrest, officers reported the suspect became combative, kicking and injuring an officer, he wrote.

She was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital for medical treatment before she was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Prosecutors filed the three-charge complaint Thursday, and the suspect pleaded not guilty, according to court records available online. The complaint alleged two counts of resisting arrest and one count of battery against a police officer.

She was released on her own recognizance after her preliminary arraignment, according to Sheriff’s Department records online.
