Detectives with the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau said there have been no arrests made yet into a Halloween night shooting that left two people dead.
Homicide Bureau officials identified the victims as Elijah Harts, a 30-year-old Encino man, who died at the scene, and 27-year-old Anthony Mora, a Newhall resident.
Homicide Bureau Lt. Michael Modica said the team of detectives working on the case has several promising leads, calling it a very active investigation and indicating no suspect has been identified at this point.
Right now, detectives believe there was a fight that broke out at the party, and an attendee called a relative to pick them up from the party, according to Modica.
Modica said he did not know of an any additional confrontation when Harts arrived, but that was when the shooting occurred.
Harts was the relative who was called, he said. It’s not clear if Harts and Mora knew each other, but Mora was a bystander who happened to be next to Harts when the shooting happened.
Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel received a call reporting a medical emergency at that location at 11:14 p.m., according to the PulsePoint dispatch app. A battalion chief, an engine and three paramedic squads responded and were cleared from the scene in just under an hour.
Mora was pronounced deceased at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital following medical treatment, according to Sheriff’s Department officials.
Modica said he was not planning to release any other additional details related to the incident at this time.
