The Castaic Union School District governing board elected a new president and clerk during the board’s organizational meeting last week.
Laura Pearson was elected president, while Erik Richardson was elected clerk.
Vincent Titiriga was elected the “presiding officer in the absence of the president and clerk,” while Superintendent Bob Brauneisen was designated secretary to the board.
Charmine Ortega, the superintendent’s executive assistant, said that aside from making the board’s yearly leadership appointments, trustees also heard a scheduled presentation on the Castaic Elementary School Modernization Project.
“Mr. Brauneisen’s superintendent report went into the modernization project for Castaic Elementary,” Ortega said. “That’s going to be an involved process, and that’s going to be a big deal.”
The project is scheduled to start in January, Ortega said.
At the meeting, architects and other project organizers presented renderings and discussed priorities for the project’s design with board members.
“I think they’re really looking forward to it,” Ortega said, highlighting the plan’s focus on streamlining exits and entrances to make the school more secure.
The plan would also move the district’s preschool program from Castaic Middle School to the Castaic Elementary School campus, giving preschoolers more opportunities to interact with other students and be involved with the campus, Ortega said.
The project contract’s request for proposals, drawings, technical specifications and geotechnical report can be found on Castaic Union School District’s website: www.castaicusd.com.
