Local students named to dean’s list at University of Maryland Global Campus
More than 11,500 University of Maryland Global Campus students were named to the dean’s list for the summer 2025 term, including five local students.
To be eligible for the honor, a student must complete at least six credits during the term, earned a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the term, and maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.5 at UMGC.
The following students from the area were named to the dean’s list:
• Erica Bates, of Castaic.
• David Keller, of Valencia.
• Chad Mitchell, of Valencia.
• Manuel Rascon, of Valencia.
• Paolo Jose Santos, of Agua Dulce.
University of Maryland Global Campus was founded more than 75 years ago to serve the higher education needs of working adults and military service members. Today, UMGC is the largest provider of postsecondary education in Maryland and continues its global tradition with online and hybrid courses, more than 175 classroom and service locations worldwide, and more than 135 degrees and certificates.
Local student to study in Kenya under Shenandoah University Global Citizenship Project
Shenandoah University’s 2026 Global Citizenship Project participants learned where they will spend spring break next March during the university’s 35th International Convocation on Nov. 19. Those 50 individuals, split into five groups, will travel to Slovakia, Hong Kong, Saint Lucia, Cuba, and Kenya.
Shenandoah student Carter Sand, of Stevenson Ranch, will travel to Kenya as part of the 2026 Global Citizenship Project.
Shenandoah’s 2026 GCP participants, which include students, faculty and staff members, were selected in October but did not know which international destination they will travel to until the countries were revealed at International Convocation.
Shenandoah University’s Global Citizenship Project has sent over 1,400 students, staff, faculty, and trustees on university-funded trips to over 70 countries and seven U.S. states and territories so that each participant might learn more about the world and themselves.
Shenandoah University was established in 1875, and is headquartered at the top of Virginia, in Winchester, Virginia, with additional educational sites in Clarke and Loudoun counties, and online offerings. Shenandoah is a private university with over 4,400 students in more than 200 areas of study in six different schools.
