Local residents shouldn’t put their raincoats and umbrellas away just yet, as rain is still in the forecast for Saturday night and Sunday, according to National Weather Service meteorologist David Gomberg.

Although rain is still expected, the system pushing through Los Angeles County is weakening, which Gomberg described as good news. “We don’t think it’s going to be too much of a problem,” he said.  Some minor ponding of water on roadways could be seen and possibly some additional rock mudslides but nothing of major significance.

For Sunday, convective showers are expected, which are more scattered in nature and have heavier downpours in a shorter duration, Gomberg said, which can be of concern, so he advised residents to remain cautious and alert. About a quarter to an inch of rain is expected for Sunday, he added. For areas up in the foothills and mountain areas around Santa Clarita, about 1 to 2 inches are expected.

According to the NWS online database, rain is expected on Saturday night primarily before 10 p.m. and temperatures will be as low as 51 degrees Fahrenheit with winds of up to 10 mph.

For Sunday, winds will reach as high as 20 mph throughout the day and at night temperatures could be as low as 48 degrees Fahrenheit.

There will be a slight pause in showers beginning Monday with only a 20% chance of rain before 10 a.m. and mostly cloudy, according to the NWS.
