A woman was declared dead at the scene of a crash involving a trailer on Wednesday morning, according to law enforcement and fire officials.
The crash was reported on the northbound side of State Route 14, just north of Newhall Avenue and Interstate 5, at approximately 11:50 a.m., according to Carlos Burgos-Lopez, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol Newhall-area Office.
According to Los Angeles County Fire Department spokeswoman Edith Lai, first responders were dispatched to the scene in response to the crash where the driver of the vehicle was declared dead at the scene.
The vehicle was identified as a blue Toyota Corolla, according to a news release provided by Burgos-Lopez, and the driver of the car was a woman approximately in her 30s. She was the only occupant in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
For unknown reasons that are still under active investigation, the Toyota became wedged under a truck-tractor combination trailer, Burgos-Lopez stated in a news release. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash.
The driver of the trailer did not sustain any injuries, and a Sigalert was issued for the no. 4 and 5 lanes on the northbound side of SR-14 and Interstate 5 freeway for an unknown duration of time while officials worked to clear the scene.
The woman has not been identified pending next of kin legal notification, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
