After five seasons at the helm of the Castaic baseball program, head coach Darrell Davis has announced he will step down at the end of the 2026 season.

Davis, who’s planning to move out of state and into Las Vegas, Nevada, said he isn’t retiring just yet.

“I decided it’s time for me to move on to my second chapter of life,” Davis said in an interview with The Signal. “And I decided it was time for me to step down after this season and go to Vegas.”

He added that he still hopes to be involved in the game and help coach high school baseball in Las Vegas, but that his time with Castaic is coming to an end.

Davis said that, when he notified the team of his decision, it was a tough conversation to have and added that it’ll be difficult leaving a program he helped build from scratch.

“I have built this program from the ground up, from everything, the fields, the uniforms,” he said. “That was a very tough conversation to have with my boys, because I’m very passionate and I care about them a lot. It’s a family atmosphere at Castaic.”

Davis will retire from his day job at the Los Angeles Police Department and added that when the high school baseball soon is over, he will move to Las Vegas and into a property he purchased two years ago.

Until then, Davis is looking forward to having one last ride with the team and excited to add more hardware into the trophy cabinet.

“Our team is really young — I think we only have five seniors in this group of boys,” Davis said. “The program is in really good shape for the next couple of years to compete. And I told them, ‘We just got to go out and compete and continue to do what we do, and we’ll worry about the rest of it at the end of the year.’”

In 2023, Davis led the Coyotes to the Division 6 California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section championship with a win over Hesperia Christian, and led the Coyotes to win the CIF SoCal Division 5 Regional title in the same season.

Davis is grateful to the administration for giving him the opportunity to pursue his “lifelong dream of coaching.”

He said he plans to help coach high school baseball in Las Vegas, and believes he still has a few more years left to give as an assistant.

“I love baseball. I love coaching players who want to learn and want to get better. So, yeah, I’m hoping to be over there next year and to help over there,” he said. “I’m still planning on coaching. I still think I got a couple more years left I can give. And that’s my plan. I’m very passionate when it comes down to coaching and I’m very passionate when it comes to my players. So, again, it’s been a hell of a ride for me, and I’m very proud of that.”
