Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel were dispatched to a medical emergency call for a student at La Mesa Junior High School on the 26600 block of May Way in Canyon Country, according to an official with the Fire Department.
Debbie Dunn, director of communication and community engagement for the William S. Hart Union High School District, said that the student was suspected to be under the influence and that there was no overdose that occurred.
The incident occurred around 12:16 p.m. when a student was suffering from a medical emergency, said Edith Lai with the Fire Department.
Firefighters arrived on the scene at 12:29 p.m., according to Lai.
Saadullah Sheikh, another official with the Fire Department, said the call closed at 12:51 p.m.
Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials did not have any information regarding the incident at the time of this publication, according to Mark Perkins with the station.
According to first responder radio dispatch traffic, the incident was initially believed to be a possible drug overdose. The initial dispatch call also reported that the incident may have been marijuana-related.
Last week, a similar report occurred at La Mesa on Tuesday when Narcan was administered to a student as a precautionary measure. Narcan (naloxone) is a nasal spray that can reverse the effects of potentially deadly opioid overdoses.
