The William S. Hart Union High School District recognized two community leaders with the One Hart Award during Wednesday’s governing board meeting.
Capt. Brandon Barclay of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and Angela Bennett, President and CEO of the SCV Pregnancy Center were the two community leaders recognized for their work and advocacy by members of the governing board.
The award recognizes members of the community that exemplify the district’s core values of community, caring, creativity, and courage.
Barclay was given the award by governing board member Aakash Ahuja for his “courage, integrity, and selfless service,” Ahuja said.
“Captain Barclay has demonstrated time and time again what it means to lead with both strength and compassion in a role that demands six second decisions, resilience under pressure, and unwavering commitment,” he added.

All members of the board gave their own personal remarks on why Barclay was deserving the recognition.
Barclay thanked those present and said, “We folks that come here are all making a difference. I want to let you know that as a leader of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, I commit myself to serve this community. It’s been a culmination of my life’s work.”
He added: “If you guys need anything, let me know and we’ll make sure that you get the best service that I can provide. I do appreciate your collaboration with the school district.”
Bennett was also recognized for her work in providing medical services for those facing unplanned pregnancy and sexual health decisions.
“When I got there, I saw the work that they were doing, and I could feel a lot that Angela had for the young girls coming in, who needed help,” Governing board President Joe Messina said. “Angela has gone out of her way to make sure that the pregnancy center isn’t just an inviting place, I know they can get help that they need, the encouragement they need and the support.”
“It’s been an honor to serve and to see lives changed and impacted throughout the years here in Santa Clarita,” Bennett said, “It’s been an honor of my life to service here, to serve our kids in our community.”
