Two Los Angeles women, aged 28 and 34, were arrested on suspicion of multiple felonies and misdemeanors after they allegedly stole multiple wallets throughout the Santa Clarita Valley on Tuesday, according to a social media post from Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
The two suspects would go around Santa Clarita to different stores and use a distraction tactic toward victims by engaging in normal conversation and steal their wallets or purses, according to Sgt. Nelson Rios with the station.
“The stolen credit cards were then quickly used for large purchases before the victims even realized their wallets were missing,” the social media post said.
Rios added that the investigation had been going on for months, and the women also were involved in incidents outside of Santa Clarita.
“Following an extensive investigation, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s detectives, along with Special Assignment Team (SAT) deputies, traveled to Los Angeles, where they located and arrested both women who were transported back to SCV Sheriff’s Station jail for booking,” the social media post said.
The women were arrested on suspicion of felony charges including grand theft, conspiracy, and theft by access card, along with misdemeanor charges of identity theft and petty theft, the social media post said.
