A large law enforcement presence was dispatched to a false call reporting an alleged shooting involving a son and a mother on the 21800 block of Peppercorn Drive in Saugus on Monday morning, according to an official with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
The incident was around 10:38 a.m. and ended 31 minutes later, according to the PulsePoint app.
Shirley Miller, spokeswoman for the station, said that deputies were dispatched to the residence and Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel were staged.
However, while deputies were doing a field investigation and contacted the people in the home, they realized it was a “swatting” incident, Miller said.
A “swatting” call is when someone reports a false emergency that requires a large law enforcement presence. It is considered a serious crime, according to Miller.
The incident is under investigation by detectives, Miller added.
