The northbound truck route connector between Interstate 5 and State Route 14 remained closed Tuesday morning as crews cleared the roadway from an early-morning crash, according to a California Highway Patrol traffic management official.
The CHP received reports of a large amount of debris on the roadway at approximately 1 a.m., according to Officer Michael Nasir with CHP traffic management. Not long after, a solo vehicle collision in the nearby area was also reported with a semi-truck jackknifed, he added.
On arrival, officials found a large amount of sand, which was identified as animal feed on the roadway coming from a semitruck that stopped near the Magic Mountain Parkway exit on the northbound side of the I-5 after the feed dropped from the truck’s load in the Newhall Pass.
For unknown reasons that are still under investigation, a semitruck also jackknifed becoming stuck and unable to move, according to Nasir and the CHP incident logs.
Officials closed the truck route to clear the scene, which extended into an hourslong cleanup. The truck route was reopened at approxaimtely 9:49 a.m. Tuesday, according to an emailed statement by Officer Andre Ortiz with the CHP Newhall area Office.
No injuries were reported, he said, and no additional information was available.
