News release
Assistance League of Santa Clarita, a chapter of Assistance League, a national nonprofit organization, invited 120 local students, referred by their schools, to a shopping event April 26 to prepare them for their upcoming promotion to middle school.
Each student selected an outfit to wear for this special occasion. One student who excitedly showing off his new outfit, remarked that he was looking forward to one day wearing a cap and gown just like the Assistance League greeter was wearing, the nonprofit said in a news release.
“The excitement and joy on the faces of the students and their parents were a delight to see,” Nancy Barker, president of the Assistance League of Santa Clarita, said in the release.
Assistance League Santa Clarita operates several community programs, funded by the chapter’s own fundraising and philanthropy efforts. Programs include Operation School Bell, which provides new clothing and school supplies to children in Santa Clarita who might otherwise go without. During the 2025/2026 school year, over 1,400 students were served.
The nonprofit’s “icare for kids” program provides eye exams and eyeglasses to children. During the 2025-26 school year, 185 students were provided with glasses.
And, to promote literacy in young community members, the group works with several schools in the Santa Clarita Valley to provide TK, first- and second-grade students with books during their birthday month. During the 2025-26 school year almost 1,000 students participated in the program.
