A man in his 20s was transported to the hospital in critical condition following an e-scooter and vehicle collision in Valencia on Saturday afternoon, according to a Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station official.

The incident was reported at approximately 1:17 p.m. near the intersection of Wiley Canyon Road and Avenida Cappela, according to Shirley Miller, a spokeswoman for the SCV Station.

Following an investigation, deputies learned that the rider of the e-scooter, who was described as a man in his 20s, was driving southbound on Wiley Canyon Road against traffic when a car collided with him, she added.

The man was transported in critical condition and sheriff’s deputies closed roads in both directions to conduct their investigation, Miller added.

Sheriff officials advised the public to use alternate routes and delays were to be expected while they conducted their investigation.

The incident comes amid ongoing conversations at City Council meetings about e-bikes and e-scooter incidents.

The public has raised concerns over riders who break traffic laws, such as ignoring stop signs, riding on the wrong side of the road, or skipping helmet and age requirements.

The topic of e-bikes is expected to return on the next City Council meeting agenda scheduled for Oct. 27, according to City Manager Ken Striplin.
