Mall’s carousel horses ride off into sunset

The carousel at the Westfield Valencia Town Center mall has thrilled its last little kid.

A longtime fixture at the mall, the carousel shut for good on Friday, the mall’s general manager confirmed.

“It’s as simple as the lease wasn’t renewed,” general manager Tom Miller told The Signal on Monday. “It was a business decision — just like any other, a decision is made if it’s viable.”

1002_news_carousel_aw_01The horses, tigers and other animals that bobbed up and down near the Sears store were in the process of being “deconstructed” and eventually carted off, Miller said.

A call to the operator of the carousel was not immediately returned.

Miller said the mall still has two other play areas for children – one indoors, one outdoors, and that both are free.

The carousel had charged $3 per ride.

If you need a carousel to entertain your kid when you are at the mall you are a horrible parent.

  • Also way to update your website without notifying ANYONE before hand so we could ALL update new logins.

Are they setting up somewhere else or is it being decommissioned entirely?
Reason I ask is that it’s always been on my bucket list to own a carousel horse for decor and I’d love to buy one, especially one that’s local history.
