News release issued by Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich
LOS ANGELES COUNTY — To ensure that the Los Angeles County Fire Department is prepared for any type of major fire incident, Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich announced that the lease contract for two CL-415 Super Scooper fire-fighting aircraft from the Government of Quebec has been extended through November 30, 2016.
“As a result of the County’s lengthened fire season due to the six-year drought, it is vital that we maintain the best arsenal and resources to protect life and property,” said Antonovich.
Capable of carrying up to 1,620 gallons of water, Super Scoopers can also scoop water from a lake in only 12 seconds, be airborne in as little as five minutes and fly three hours before refueling.
At the direction of Supervisor Antonovich, the Los Angeles County Fire Department began leasing the Super Scoopers from the Government of Quebec in 1994.
