Cookie Johnson, wife to Magic Johnson, made a stop in Santa Clarita Sunday for a Q&A and book signing, allowing hundreds to meet her and hear her story of love, overcoming adversity and keeping the faith.
The visit was a apart of The Southern Christian Leadership Conference of Southern California’s “Believing in Magic” book tour, and saw Johnson’s Q&A take the place of the Valencia Christian Center’s regularly scheduled 11 a.m. service at Albert Einstein Academy.
“There’s several different stories in the book, and I’m hoping that, you know, people can read that book and see how god has worked in our lives,” Cookie Johnson told The Signal.
Released in September 2016, Cookie Johnson’s book “Believing in Magic” shares details of her marriage, motherhood, faith and how an HIV diagnosis 25 years ago changed the course of their lives forever.
Marlon Saunders is the Senior Pastor at Valencia Christian Center, he conducted the Q&A.
“The bottom line is no matter what life throws your way, there’s a way to overcome it.” Saunders said.
“It’s good to bring a real life example to see that.”
Saunders said roughly 350 people attended the event, and that it was VCC’s biggest draw to date.
“We have not brought people of this magnitude to our church, so for us it’s huge,” he said.
The event took place one day before the 25th anniversary of Magic Johnson’s HIV announcement.
