One person was injured and taken to the hospital early Tuesday morning following a traffic collision on Interstate 5 near Templin Highway.

The crash happened shortly before 11:30 p.m. Monday in the northbound lanes of I-5, just south of Templin, Vanessa Lozano, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department said Tuesday.

Paramedics arrived at the crash site at 11:46 p.m.

“One patient was taken to a local area hospital,” Lozano said.

A second ambulance was dispatched to the crash shortly after midnight when the first ambulance sustained a flat tire, she said.

“There was heavy traffic (through the Grapevine),” Lozano said.

The collision caused about nine gallons of oil to be spilled which ended up going down the “drain,” however, no hazardous materials unit was dispatched to the spill.

Caltrans crews, however, were dispatched to apply sand to the spilled oil.

Firefighters spent 90 minutes at the crash.
