Under the veil of nighttime darkness, fire crews rescued a woman trapped inside the wreckage of her car Monday night, one witness and an official said.
Reports of a 2007 Toyota Scion over the side of winding Placerita Canyon Road in the Angeles National Forest came in to Los Angeles County Fire Department and the U.S. Forest Service dispatchers at 9:15 p.m., according to county fire spokeswoman Vanessa Lozano.
Crews from Angeles National Forest and county fire arrived on seven minutes later and found a sedan about 50 feet from the roadway.
A female driver was extricated from the vehicle and transported by an American Medical Response ambulance to the hospital for evaluation, one witness said.
According to CHPÂ Officer Josh Greengard, the vehicle hit a fixed object, presumably a guide wire for a pole.
The cause of the incident was being investigated by the California Highway Patrol. Â Greengard said alcohol and drugs are not a factor in the solo crash.
