A Canyon Country truck driver was formally charged with murder for the 2015 shooting death of a Lancaster man and attempted murder in the shooting of a Canyon Country woman.

Michael Joe McGlothan, 51, appeared in the San Fernando Superior Court Tuesday where he was arraigned on the charges of murder and attempted murder.

“He pleaded not guilty,” said Ricardo Santiago, spokesman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

McGlothan is scheduled to reappear in court Jan. 23, 2017 for pre-trial proceedings.

McGlothan was arrested May 6, 2015 for the shooting death of 21-year-old Ledarion Allen Jr. of Lancaster.

He was also suspected of shooting and wounding 30-year-old Shatari Shene Cooks inside an apartment they – McGlothan  and Cooks – reportedly shared on Sierra Highway in Canyon Country.

Following a manhunt for McGlothan’s whereabouts, he was found in May driving a Volvo big rig to a New York State Thruway toll barrier on Interstate 90 in Ripley where he was arrested.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department homicide detectives filed an extradition warrant to begin the court proceedings for the L.A. murder trial.

McGlothan’s bail was set at $3.03 million.
