Local sheriff’s deputies are waiting outside the hospital room of a patient who suffered a gunshot wound Thursday night, hoping to get some details of what happened.

Deputies and paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to reports of a shooting on Water Wheel Circle, just west of San Francisquito Canyon Road shortly before 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Fire Department Inspector Randall Wright told The Signal Friday morning.

“We responded to a call for a gun shot wound on the 22600 block of Water Wheel Circle,” he said. “We transported one patient by ground ambulance to a local area trauma center.”

Water Wheel Circle is about six miles north of Copper Hill Drive.

Emergency response crews received the call at 9:24 p.m. Paramedics arrived at the scene at 9:38 p.m.

“We’re still trying to determine what happened,” said Lt. Bryan Aguilera of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“We don’t know what kind of involvement the patient has,” he said. “That’s kind of what we’re trying to determine now.”

Deputies investigating the incident are waiting for the appropriate time depending the patient’s medical condition to interview that person, Aguilera said.

“We don’t know but we think this is possibly accidental or self-inflicted,” he said.

Asked if deputies are looking for any suspects in connection with the shooting, Aguilera said “no.”
