Those looking for forecast-rain and finding only a few drops Thursday should not be fooled into thinking that’s the worst of the storm, said one meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Oxnard.
Up to two inches of rain could fall on the Santa Clarita Valley.
The storm is expected to hit while most of us are sleeping Thursday night and continue into Friday morning, Rich Thompson of the weather office said late Thursday afternoon.
“Don’t be fooled by the few drops we’ve had so far,” he said Thursday afternoon. “We’ve only had (small) amounts and just a light rain.
“The bulk of the rainfall will happen later this evening and into Friday morning when the front moves in,” he said. “This is just what’s ahead of that front.”
A flash flood watch issued by the weather service Wednesday remains in effect until Friday.
As much as 1.5 inches of rain is expected to fall on the Santa Clarita Valley beginning Thursday and lasting until Friday, Carol Smith, meteorologist also with the National Weather Service told The Signal.
Deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station reported just one traffic collision as of Thursday afternoon. They believe was weather-related on Orchard Village Road at Mill Valley Road, shortly after 2:20 p.m. No one was hurt in the crash.
Officers with the California Highway patrol responded to one report of a “spin out” that happened in the northbound lanes of Highway 14. No one was reported to have been hurt.
The crash happened shortly after 3 p.m. when the rain began to fall, on the northbound lanes of Highway 14 at Escondido Canyon Road.
CHP officers found two vehicles facing stopped in the right lane, one of them facing the wrong direction after it had apparently spun out.
