A Newhall resident confronted thieves as they tried to escape with a package left on his doorstep.
Deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station arrested a local man and woman Wednesday on suspicion of two suspected felonies that were committed, allegedly, over a package stolen from a Newhall porch.
The incident marks the latest in a series of similar seasonal crimes which have involved reports of stolen mail, vandalized mailboxes, stolen identities and other packages stolen from other doorsteps.
“In the 23500 block of Newhall Avenue, Newhall, a victim saw two suspect steal a package which had just been delivered, from his porch,” Lt. Brenda Cambra who commands the local sheriff’s Detective Section.
“He confronted the suspects, and the female ran. The male suspect threatened to assault the victim,” Cambra said.
“The victim retreated to a safe place, but was able to follow the suspect until deputies arrived,” she said.
Thomas Casey Carlson, 27, of Newhall, was arrested on suspicion of robbery. His bail was set at $250,000.
Sandra Leon, 37, of Santa Clarita, was arrested on suspicion of vandalism to mailbox or mail. Her bail was set at $50,000.
