Families received the opportunity to skate on ice, throw snowballs at family members and sled across the rink at Ice Station Valencia’s Family Snow Days on Sunday.
“The kids are having a lot of fun,” Alicia Suleiman said as she watched her husband slide her daughter across the ice.
“They’re on their sleds going back and forth, having snow ball fights and enjoying time with family and friends.”
For families spending their holidays in Southern Califonia, the snow and ice was a sweet treat.
“The kids can experience snow and it’ll be a fun day with the family,” Jennifer Plummer said.
Plummer took her two children with her to experience Family Snow Days for the first time. Her daughter had never seen the snow and delighted in chasing around her parents with a snowball in her hand.
Family Snow Days gave children, who may not be comfortable with skates on their feet, the chance to run on the ice in tennis shoes.
“It’s geared towards a span of ages for families to have fun,” said Michal Robertson, who is the event manager at the ice station.
One of the skating rinks was open to the public for ice-skating, while a smaller rink was filled with snow and geared towards families to enjoy with their children.
“It just definitely goes with the season,” Robertson said. “People automatically think that ice skating goes with the holidays and when it starts getting colder it just pops into people’s heads. It just becomes part of what they do during the season.”
The last Family Snow Day will be on Christmas Eve.
