Seeking resources for small business owners, Representative Steve Knight chaired a hearing on Thursday to review federal programs that assist females, veterans and others who want to be entrepreneurs.
“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and these programs have the potential to offer valuable resources for them,” Knight said in a statement. “Today’s discussion granted us helpful insight into how we can build upon these efforts and continue to assist our entrepreneurs grow and create more jobs in our community.”
Each targeted at specific businesses’ needs, the Small Business Administration offers entrepreneurial development assistance, counseling and mentorship, which include Small Business Development Center programs, the SCORE program, the Women’s Business Center Program and the Veterans Business Outreach Center program.
According to Knight, initiatives offered by the SBA need to be more accessible. The 25th Congressional District houses about 450 small businesses, but many cannot easily get these resources, Knight said.
“With approximately 29 million small business in the United States, the programs within the SBA must operate efficiently and swiftly as the entrepreneurs they seek to help,” Knight said at the hearing.
Knight serves at the chairman of the House Small Business Subcommittee on Contracting and the Workforce. Last week, Knight introduced the Women’s Business Centers Improvements Act.
