A person was found dead in a vehicle after being involved in a traffic collision south of Agua Dulce Canyon Road on the northbound Highway 14 Sunday morning.

Joe Lopez, 25, was driving a 2004 Toyota Matrix northbound on Highway 14, north of Soledad Canyon Road, when he started approaching a Toyota Corolla.

An individual was parked in the corolla on the right shoulder of the road.

For reasons still being investigated, Lopez’s car drifted into the right shoulder, where the front of the car collided with the corolla. As a result, the occupant of the corolla sustained fatal injuries.

Drugs and alcohol are suspected to be a factor in this collision.

The incident was initially reported as a vehicle fire around 5:29 a.m. along Highway 14 but when fire officials responded they found a traffic collision with a person dead on arrival, according to L.A. County Fire officials.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.

Lopez has been arrested for vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI and has a court case for Tuesday. His bail is set at $100,000.
