No matter how old or young, whether you’re an athlete or a fan, Thanksgiving gives us all the opportunity to reflect on the people and situations in our life that we are most thankful for. The day also provides us with one of the best meals we might eat all year.

Athletes from around the Santa Clarita Valley shared with The Signal what some of those things are and what their favorite Thanksgiving dish is.

Lo Russ, Valencia volleyball

I’m thankful for my health, being able to play volleyball, and my family!

My favorite Thanksgiving food is my mom’s sweet mashed potatoes.

JT Shrout, Hart football

I’m thankful for my family, my friends, and thankful I get to wake up every day and play football.

My favorite food is ham and mashed potatoes.

DJ Turner, Golden Valley football

I’m definitely thankful for all the opportunities and second chances God has given me and my teammates…it was a big question mark whether or not we’d even make the playoffs…now look at us! And hands down mashed potatoes, you can never go wrong there.

Nathan Eldridge, Saugus football

I’m thankful for my lord and savior Jesus Christ for allowing me to return from my injuries this season and getting the team as far as we’ve made it.

I’m thankful for my mom Deana Eldridge and my dad William Eldridge along with all my other family and relatives for all their love, support, and guidance.

My favorite Thanksgiving food is most likely this amazing stuffing my momma makes.

Zach Semko, Valencia football

I’m thankful for my mom and thankful for my boys. That’s it. I just like ham.

Nathan Bradder, Hart football

I am probably most thankful for my dogs and the support of my family and my favorite Thanksgiving food is marshmallow yams.

Noelle Song, West Ranch girls golf

I am thankful for my family and friends. They are so supportive and I wouldn’t know what to do without them. My mom and dad especially have done so many things to support me.

I am also grateful for the many opportunities I have had to travel for golf and play in tournaments. This golf season has been so amazing and such a unique experience. 2017 has been a year that I will never forget.

My favorite Thanksgiving food would have to be homemade corn soufflé.
