I am writing in regard to the column in Tuesday’s Signal Opinion page written by Tom Purcell about identity theft.
His “tongue-in-cheek” commentary was cute. But Purcell missed the most important way to stop identity theft. That is credit freeze.
The process is easy. To freeze your credit on all three bureaus takes less than 20 minutes. With a freeze in place, even if the bad guys had all your information – i.e. Social
Security number, date of birth, mother’s maiden name, etc., no new credit can be obtained.
