As part of Community College Month, the Valley Industry Association is set to offer a look at what training is available for local employers and employees at its upcoming business luncheon.

The event, “Workforce Development Through Continuing Education and Training,” is scheduled at 11:45 a.m. on April 9 at the Hyatt Regency Valencia, located at 24500 Town Center Drive.

Jerry Buckley, assistant superintendent and vice president of Academic Affairs at College of the Canyons, will offer attendees a presentation geared toward executives, business owners and management teams interested in developing their workforce and keeping their business competitive.

Buckley became assistant superintendent and vice president of academic affairs for COC in 2013 and over the last six years has facilitated the delivery of 124 instructional programs to address the educational needs of the Santa Clarita Valley. He was recently named the president of Reedley College by the State Center Community College District Board of Trustees, and he assumes his new post June 1.

The community college offers low-cost and no-cost programs. Certifications currently offered include workplace essentials, customer relations, and management toolbox, designed to optimize workplace communication skills. The Strong Workforce Apprenticeship Group supports local companies by developing a pipeline of talent through meaningful work experience, on-the-job training, and related technical instruction.

“With membership at the heart of our organization, creating value is an ongoing focus,” VIA Chairwoman Teresa Todd said in a statement. “VIA members can realize a competitive advantage in developing business within the area’s industrial centers, and the information provided in this month’s Speaker Series luncheon provides that benefit.”

Reservations are required. Tickets are now available at www.VIA.org/calendar or by calling 661-294-8088. For more information, contact the VIA office at [email protected].
