For the first time in its three-year history, the iLEAD Online program plans to offer free advanced placement courses to students throughout Los Angeles County.

“The summer track program through our school allows students to take a couple classes with us” for credit recovery and/or advancement, said Allison Bravo, iLEAD Online’s program director. “And this is the first year we’re offering AP classes (for online).”

In addition to the College Board courses, the classes offered through iLEAD Online include things such as career technical education, fine arts, general education, math, physical education and more.

“Anyone can take one of these courses, and the summer track program is free,” she said, adding that all courses are certified by the Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACS WASC) and are UC/CSU a-g approved courses.

The only difference, according to Bravo, between these courses and the traditional classroom setting is the flexibility they provide students and their families.

“They’re fun, personalized …  and the courses are created by our teachers and are project-based,” said Bravo, adding that students who need additional help can speak with real-time tutors, meet with course facilitators as needed, and are assigned a one-on-one academic coach.

According to iLEAD officials, 4th through 12th grade students from any district in Santa Clarita or Los Angeles County can sign up for classes now, and have until a week before the start date of the summer track program, July 1, to enroll.

The iLEAD Online program is part of the iLEAD charter school network, whose founding campus is SCVi in Castaic. Those wishing to learn more about the iLEAD Online summer track program can visit their website at https://ileadonline.org/.
