There were some tense moments late Friday afternoon when emergency response crews received reports of a toddler unconscious after a fall.

The boy, identified only as two and a half years old, fell at an address on the 28300 block of Whites Canyon Road.

“This was a two-and-a-half-year-old male unconscious from a fall,” Capt. Ron Singleton of the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.

Arrangements were initially made for a rescue helicopter to airlift the child to a pediatric hospital.

“When we learned he was awake and crying, we called off the airlift,” Singleton said.

The child was, instead, taken by ground ambulance to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital.
